On Being a Patient

By Jo Porter, NH Institute for Health Policy and Practice

Senior Director of Community Health, Cheshire Medical Center / Dartmouth Hitchcock Keene
Co-Chair, NH Citizens Health Initiative, Health Promotion Disease Prevention Pillar Group (HPDPPG)

Yet despite our best efforts in this regard, many of the leading causes of death for the citizens of New Hampshire will remain the same such as heart disease, cancer, and cerebrovascular disease. More importantly, the underlying causes for the chronic diseases that shorten life or decrease the quality of life will remain the same, such as tobacco use, lack of physical activity, poor nutrition, alcohol misuse, and environmental factors.
